Jewelry wire is one of the most important elements in much jewelry. It is an irreplaceable tool for manufacturing ear cords, jump rings, pendants for wrapping cords, head clips, and buckles. Widely used to make necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry supplies.

Type of jewelry thread
The most commonly used jewelry wires are copper, silver, and gold. All wires can be colored in many different shades.
Copper wire
Copper wire is cheap, easy to find, and soft and easy to use. This is a good wire for practice.
Silver wire
Silver-plated wires are very easy to obtain. It is usually made of pure silver on a copper core and is easy to use and relatively cheap.
Sterling silver wire
Sterling silver wire is one of the most popular wire types because it works best for many jewelry pieces. Pounds indicate that the wire is 92.5% pure silver. The remaining part is made of alloy (such as copper or zinc) to provide strength. It is easy to cause rust, so when not in use, it should be stored in a zip lock bag or airtight container.
Fine silver wire
The fine silver wire is made of 99.9% pure silver. It is softer than pure silver wire. Because it has fewer alloys, it will not lose its luster as quickly as pure silver wire.
Gold wire
Pure gold wires are very expensive and difficult to find. Alternatives are gold-plated wires and filled gold wires.

Gold-plated wire and gold-filled wire
Both the gold-plated wire and the gold-filled wire have a 10k or higher gold layer on the core of the base metal (usually copper). When the gold account exceeds 1/20, it can be called fill gold.

How to Choose the Right Craft Wire?

Wire gauge
There are many different wire sizes. The higher the specification number, the smaller the wire diameter. In the United States, in most European countries/regions, wire diameters are measured by specifications, and wire diameters are measured in millimeters.

The following is a list of some commonly used gauges and their uses.

● 16 gauge (1.29mm) is a thick wire. You must use it with heavy tools. It is widely used for wire engraving, bracelet bases, unsupported shapes, and necklines.
● 18 gauge (1.02mm) is a medium-thick wire. You can use regular jewelry tools. It can use for wine utensils, buckles, gift-wrapping paper, decorations, iron wire packaging beads with large holes, and chains.
● 20 wire gauge (0.81mm) is a center wire. You can use regular jewelry tools. It is a good universal wire for making ear cords, head clips, and small cord buckles. Suitable for winding most glass beads, coiled beads, and eyelets.
● 22 gauge (0.64mm) is a medium and thin wire. You can use regular jewelry tools. It is very suitable for wrapping Austrian crystal or transparent semi-precious beads, scrapbooking and paper crafts, and other metal wires.
● 24 gauge (0.51mm) is a thin wire. It can be used with regular jewelry tools. It can be used to wrap smaller crystals, semi-precious beads, and freshwater pearls on metal wires for chaining, rubber-stamping, and exquisite Decoration.
● 26 gauge (0.41mm) is a very thin wire. Tools with very fine tips should be used with this wire. It can be used for stitch stitching, embroidery, and seed bead projects.
● 28-34 gauge (0.32-0.16mm) is a very thin wire. Tools with very fine tips should be used with his wire. This kind of thread is very suitable for thread weaving, crocheting, and free-form thread wrapping using small beads.

Wire Hardness
There are three types of the wire harness. They are very soft, semi-hard, and full hard.
1. The hard wire is very soft and flexible. It can bend by hand. It is very suitable for engraving steel wire jewelry, but should not be used with large or heavy stones.
2. The semi-hard wire is slightly harder than the hard wire. This is because it has been pulled over the pull plate. An artboard is a tool. The holes on the drawing board have the same size and shape as the wires.

3. The full-hard steel wire is pulled through the pull plate more times than the semi-hard steel wire, making it harder and stronger. The harder the wire, the more tools will be needed to handle it.

Wire Shape
There are many shapes of wire. They are round, semi-circular, and flat. Although round wires seem to be more versatile, flat and semicircular wires are also popular. Semicircular wires are usually wrapped around other wires to connect them, and flat wires are very suitable for wire-wrapping projects.
